Southeastern Vermont celebrates agriculture and sustainability with its annual Parade of the Heifers on June 4th. This is another of those wacky Vermont events with the emphasis on cows. Depending on the level of participation from surrounding farms, you may see as many as 100 of them being led down Main Street in Brattleboro. Many of Vermont’s political figures show up for this event, including Senator Bernie Sanders. He usually takes part in a milking competition on the Green after the parade. This event draws about 40,000 people so arrive early, find a parking space and a viewing position on the sidewalk.
Besides this movie, you can see a slide show of this event by Carol Smith here. Also, you can see a sheep shearing demonstration here
