A canoe trip down the river Clyde in northeastern Vermont. The Clyde flows from Island Pond to Newport and Lake Memphremagog, near the Canadian border. The section shown in this video is around West Charleston, where the river meanders through a maple swamp. The video was shot entirely with a GoPro HD2, but because of the constant sway of the boat, a lot of stabilization was used in post. GoPro footage is not always easy to edit, but it can look surprisingly good as you will see in the video.

Every second week in April, fishermen throughout New England have flocked to the Choiniere-Willoughby River Access for a fishing experience like no other. The Willoughby flows north from Lake Willoughby to Lake Memphremagog.

In spring, the trout swim up river about 15 miles from Lake Memphremagog to spawn in the rocky shale of the river just below Lake Willoughby.

The river is known for its abundance of steelhead trout. Studies have shown that the steelheads in the Willoughby have five times the natural reproduction rates of trout in almost any other Vermont river.

This is a time lapse taken from Bear Mountain on Easter Sunday, 2010. The wind on the mountain was gusting to 35 mph and I feared that it would shake the tripod during the shoot. This time lapse is made up of more than 900 exposures each taken two seconds apart.

Spring in Vermont means dandelions…millions of them cover the fresh green pastures in May. At the Grand View Winery near East Calais, they offer a public tasting of dandelion wine along with some stunning views of the Vermont countyside

Dozens of mountain bikers, some with “fat tire” equipped bikes race down an icy trail near Burke Mountain, Vermont. Winterbike, as it is called, offers spectators plenty of action. There are plenty of wipe outs and “air time.” This annual event held in early March ends a winter that has not been too cooperative with winter sports.

Larry Letourneau, in Derby Line, still collects syrup in galvanized buckets instead of using tubing, but he is slowly changing over. If the snow is deep enough, Letourneau uses a team of Belgians to collect the sap

Wendy was one of the contestants in the 67th Stowe Derby. This race runs from the top of Mount Mansfield, Vermont’s highest mountain, to the village of Stowe. A snowstorm leading up to the event resulted in superb skiing, and with sunshine after the storm it was what they call a” bluebird day.” Except for the opening, this entire movie was filmed with a Go Pro HD2 which Wendy wore on her chest. This produces a steadier image, except when Wendy has to use her polls.

The icy dip into Lake Memphremagog helps raise money for Vermont Special Olympics. We used a Go Pro HD strapped to Sierra Lowell and got some nice shots of her entering the water with her group. Lots of “oh My Gods” can be heard and that water doesn’t look that clean! Penguin Plunges are held throughout Vermont during January and February. Newport’s is always held in early February at the Gateway Center. Thank you Sierra for providing some great shots!
