Sad to see cross-country ski trails used for this event; in a winter like this, every day of cross-country skiing was valuable. Here, not only was a day of skiing lost, but the trails were trashed spoiling what little skiing remained before the end of the season. How about using a cross-country ski area solely for cross-country skiing during the ski season? Not such a novel idea--almost every other cross-country area does that.

Most years for the last twenty, we have gone to Vermont in October and enjoyed hiking and the woods. The story told by this video so perfectly explains our attraction to this state and this month. Our feelings about the place and time can best be described by a quote from long time CBS host of "On the Road", Charles Kuralt:

"The first week of October in Vermont is the unbearably beautiful American time and place. Brilliant yellow birch-covered hills slope down to glowing green meadows. Every sugar maple along every country lane combusts in scarlet and gold. The autumn sun brightens the white church steeples in the pretty valley towns. Plump pumpkins appear in orange pyramids outside the crossroads stores, and the smell of wood smoke hangs in the air. The intensity of the season so overpowers the senses that autumn cannot be remembered one year to the next, so its splendor always comes as a shock."

Thank you, that is wonderful news. My heart goes out to everyone during the clean up and rebuilding. We live in Florida and know how it feels all too well.

Is this the Lincoln Bridge? Near the Lincoln Inn and Restaurant? Was there any damage to the Inn or Restaurant? I certainly hope not. All three are beautiful and historic places that can never be replaced.

Hey...I recognize that man...but his name is spelled incorrectly...It's Jim Charonko, with an O. He is an amazing musician, knows hundreds of songs, never takes breaks (except to get a beer!) and if you closed your eyes, you would think you were in the room with Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens or even Johnny Cash! And, in case you want to know..his wife drinks Switchback :)
