Misconceptions about Wedding Video

Wedding planning should include both Videography and Photography
Videography is a part of the wedding planning that is too often overlooked. People seem to always remember that they need a photographer, but not a videographer. Even wedding planners are guilty of this.
Then a flash bulb goes off. People suddenly realize that it would be nice to capture the day on video. But with budget spent, a couple is often forced to ask a relative to do it, hoping that they'll get a good video. After the wedding, the couple view the video, and all they see is distant shots with a few shakey close-ups, all made with a small, hand held camcorder. They regret their decision.
So let's step back a moment here. Would you entrust your wedding photography to an amateur? No, of course not, so why would you think of doing so with a videographer? Well, people do and often for the reasons just stated.
Next, there is a huge misconception that wedding video is inexpensive and easy to fix and that you should not expect to pay more than $1,000. After all, it just about running around with a little camera and copying what it shoots to a DVD. Wrong!
Aside from the 5-7 hours of shooting, the use of several, highly expensive video cameras and a bunch of special sound equipment, today's professional wedding video production usually involves 40-50 hours of editing time, unless it's a cookie-cutter operation. What professional can afford to charge such a low rate?
So prepare to pay more and budget for it. If the videographer is any good, you should get something close to a real movie that tells a story and evokes emotions throughout. Look for a videographer, that you think will elicit the same satisfying emotions that a good photograph does. This is certainly what we here at Video-Vermont strive to do for you!
