The Craftsbury Cross Country Ski Marathon is actually two marathons; one is 25km and the other is 50km. The marathon is usually held on a Saturday in the first week of February, a time when the snowpack in Vermont is general at its deepest. The course draws hundreds of contestants who ski through woods and open country around the Craftsbury area. If you are ever in Vermont during this time, it is quite a site to see the skiers moving swiftly across open fields and disappearing into dense woods. The race is organized by the Craftsbury Outdoor Center.
