«Prev : The 2008 Bridgewater Homemade Raft RaceEvery year in early May homemade raft enthusiasts compete in a three mile race down the Ottauquechee river in central Vermont. The water is very cold because it contains snow melt from the nearby Killington ski resort. About 50 rafts are entered each year.
In order to compete, your raft must be homemade. No commercial rafts or boats are allowed. The race begins when a homemade cannon is fired from above the river at Bridgewater Corners. Although it was a bit out of focus I thought it important to keep this clip, showing the cannon maker taking cover behind a tree! I have been told he used too much gun powder. The cannon flew into the air as you can see.
